Shamel Azmeh is a lecturer at the Global Development Institute (GDI) at the University of Manchester in the UK. His work focuses on global production and trade particularly digital trade, global value chains, and trade governance. Shamel has a degree from the University of Damascus and a PhD from the University of Manchester and has worked at the University of Bath and the London School of Economics (LSE). He has worked as a consultant and adviser to a number of international organisations including the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
